The Ambition for North Shields Master Plan set to Transform our Coastal Community
As ambitious plans for the transformation of North Shields, including the Fish Quay, are given final approval by cabinet, what will the master plan mean for our local community and the wider coastal region?
The masterplan will integrate funding from Historic England to revitalise Howard Street and Northumberland Square as part of the North Shields High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ). The HSHAZ will support sustainable economic and cultural growth through a four-year program of physical improvements, community, and cultural activities.
We’re delighted to see the approval of the master plan which will accelerate the re-imagining of North Shields into an increasingly desirable destination to live, work and play. Investing in heritage, seeing historic buildings brought back to life and celebrating our local history will help transform our local area into a thriving destination.

From our location at Northumberland Square, we will be at the epicentre of the HSHAZ development for the square where ideas include providing a central grassed space including space for staged music events, tree and shrub replanting and connecting the library café, Beacon Centre to the open space of the square.
