The oldest jewellery shop in Whitley Bay, Chapman's The Jewellers, is celebrating its 50th anniversary of being in business. As a long-standing commercial tenant of RA Jackson & Son LLP, we’re delighted to celebrate them too!

Established in Whitley Bay in April 1973, Chapman’s stock a large range of gold and silver jewellery and specialise in watch and jewellery repairs. They also provide a high-quality ear-piercing service, using only the finest 9ct gold, and valuations by their highly experienced, IRV registered or FGA qualified experts.

What started out as a relationship between our firm and Mr. Chapman, Senior, has developed over the years to one with Warren Chapman, the initial tenant’s son. In July 2017, our own firm saw a change in faces, with the takeover of RA Jackson & Son by local Chartered Surveyors, James Barlow and Richard Fenwick. But our relationship with Chapman’s continued, as did several other of our commercial and residential tenancies.

Businesses weather peaks and troughs through their lifetimes, and the last few years have been particularly hard - the pandemic and cost of living crisis have sadly seen many a small business have to shut up shop.

So, this milestone is even more impressive and important. It’s also a testament to the hard work and strong drive uniting the independent family jewellers, whose premises are just along the sea-front from our own office in North Shields.

There’s nothing we enjoy more than a positive tenant/landlord relationship, especially when it’s with another local business on the Coast. By supporting and working with one another, our businesses collectively thrive, bringing a boost to the North Tyneside economy and helping our area to prosper.

All of this makes for a better place to live and work, and to build something for future generations. That’s another reason why we want to celebrate a successful business like Chapman’s - they have built something that has stood the test of time and that looks to the future. As an independent jewellers, without the support or protection from bigger corporate backing, they’ve had to do it all alone. But with the guts comes the glory, and we couldn’t be prouder or happier for them on reaching this achievement of half a century.
